Writing is not just about creating a story. Most writers find that many hours are spent on the creation of their tale. This includes setting their imagination to work so the beginning of the writing journey has started. The writer’s creation is set and made, but there are still mistakes. These mistakes can include wrong verb tense or spelling and punctuation. In addition, this is when the next stage, the most important and crucial stage, starts the minute the manuscript has been completed: the editing process.

Publishers, editors, and readers expect to receive a clean copy, and it goes a long way toward making them believe the works are professional and have been written and edited with exceptional skill, helping to avoid bad press or bad reviews. Even if an editor decides not to use a story, a fully edited and polished script will have a long-lasting impression on them, and it may be that they decide to buy and sell the story in the future.

More importantly, every writer wants their readers to take them seriously. With a badly edited manuscript, things like bad grammar, spelling, and punctuation, are increasingly important to correct. Readers expect to have a professional story in their hands, and the worst case is that they will leave the story and move onto the next, angry and disillusioned about the writer’s skills, without the story making any real impact at all. Readers will create an illusion of the writer as an uneducated writer, based upon bad editing.
